BYD reported total deliveries of 2.3 million electric vehicles, and when including other vehicle types such as PHEVs, roughly double that, total deliveries reached 4.6 million units by 2025.
Tesla delivered 1.79 million vehicles in 2024. If these figures remain largely unchanged, BYD is likely to successfully overtake Tesla as the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer.
Despite becoming the world’s number one, BYD’s sales in China declined in December. December’s electric vehicle deliveries totaled 420,398 units, a decrease of 18.34% from the previous month. Combined with the fourth quarter’s total of 1,342,290 units, this represents an 11.94% decrease compared to the same period last year. However, sales outside of China continue to grow.
