Vivo Chinese smartphone manufacturer halts AI glasses project

-

Vivo has halted its AI glasses project after concluding it would be difficult to differentiate the product in a highly competitive and rapidly changing market.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the project had been under development for about six months and involved collaboration with several original equipment manufacturers (ODMs), including Goertek and software company ThunderSoft, the source said.

Vivo explored several technical approaches, including designs focused on audio and video, and AI glasses with only a single green display module, but had not yet decided on a final product direction before the project was suspended.

The decision came after senior executives, including Executive Vice President Hu Baishan, assessed that significantly differentiating the product would be difficult at this stage, the source said [Zhineng Yongxian, in Chinese].
