Huawei unveils HarmonyOS 6 ahead of Mate 80 launch this month

    -

Huawei has launched its new HarmonyOS 6 operating system, announcing that the upcoming Mate 80 series smartphones will be the company’s first flagship smartphones to feature the new system. This update emphasizes the concept of “Smooth, Intelligent, and Secure.”

Deep software and hardware integration delivers a superior intelligent experience across devices. The Mate 80 series is expected to launch in late November and will be the first devices to launch with HarmonyOS 6, powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset.

This launch marks the evolution of Huawei’s HarmonyOS as a system independent from Android and iOS. HarmonyOS 6 is Huawei’s sixth major update since the release of the first version of HarmonyOS in August 2019.

Huawei states that HarmonyOS 6 delivers greater fluidity. Performance has been increased by 15% for devices upgraded to HarmonyOS 5 and by 40% for devices upgraded to HarmonyOS 4.

More than 23 million devices are currently running HarmonyOS 5, and major apps such as WeChat have received compatibility updates. Xiaoyi, Huawei’s native AI assistant, has been upgraded to a proactive service model, capable of handling complex tasks with a single command, from travel planning, check-in, and medical appointments. Xiaoyi supports 16 dialects and image recognition for users with visual impairments.

Xiaoyi currently powers over 80 HarmonyOS AI assistants across healthcare, travel, and entertainment. HarmonyOS 6 includes enhanced privacy and security features, including proactive risk alerts that can automatically detect various types of potential fraud during incoming calls.

Users can also securely share files, limiting access to specific recipients or setting files to self-destruct after a single viewing.

The Huawei Mate 80 series is expected to launch in mid-to-late November, with sales beginning in early December. All models will come pre-installed with HarmonyOS 6 and will be powered by the Kirin 9030 processor with active cooling for the first time. According to MyDrivers, the battery in this series will consist of a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, and some models may support 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging.
