Kuaishou, a Chinese short-video and live-streaming platform, said it was subjected to a coordinated cyberattack by an online criminal network on Monday night, temporarily disrupting its live-streaming services.
The platform was attacked with a large amount of illegal obscene content, the company said. Automated tools were used to send massive amounts of illegal obscene content into live stream rooms, with dozens of posts appearing every second.
Kuaishou said it immediately activated its emergency response plan and has gradually restored live-streaming functions. Other services on the platform were unaffected. Security experts said the incident underscores the widening gap between the increasing number of automated attacks by illegal networks and the platform’s largely human-based content moderation system, which is unable to cope with the large volume and coordinated violations.
Kuaishou said it has reported the incident to relevant public security and regulatory agencies and will take legal action to protect its interests.
